The proper technique for fishing the spinnerbait is to cast the lure out and let it flutter slowly to the bottom; reeling it back to the boat with a slow hop-and-drop type retrieve. Don’t lift the bait too far off the bottom and don’t lift it too swiftly. Slowly raising the rod tip a few inches at a time, causing only three or four revolutions of the spinner blade, will normally get the job done. Continue this slow hop-and-drop retrieve all the way back to the boat, looking for hits to come on the fall, or just as you lift the bait off the bottom. Be prepared for some furious strikes on this lure... make sure you have a firm grip on the rod at all times. Plastic worms and jig combinations are equally productive on night bass. The technique for fishing these lures is about the same as fishing the spinnerbait, although these lures can be worked inside heavier cover.
