"I would say it was an average or typical year for us," Kelley told The Missourian. "Helping EMS (Emergency Medical Services) is always our biggest category, and it was again last year."
St. Clair fire personnel responded to 562 total EMS-related calls, which amounted to 43.2 percent of the total.
"It's usually in the 40 to 50 percent range," Kelley said. "It was right there again this past year."
Of the 562 EMS calls, 392 were for ambulance medical assists. Another 73 were for non-injury vehicle accidents while 58 were for accidents with injuries. There were 11 vehicle extrications needed in relation to accidents and one other extrication from a piece of machinery after an accident.
Also, there were two water or ice-related rescues, two swimming or recreational water rescues and two boat rescues last year.
In 2010, there were 555 EMS assists, or 43.3 percent of the 1,282 total.
Fires
Kelley said crews worked 150 fires in 2011, or 15 more than the year before. Of those 2011 fires, 66 were brush, 37 were house, 29 were vehicle, 10 were miscellaneous and eight were flue. The 150 fire calls amounted to 11.5 percent of the overall total number of calls.
