    Therapy Choir gets awareness week

Headquartered in Farmington Hills, the Therapy Choirs of Michigan has been helping people with special needs for over a decade.

This includes people with mental illness, brain injuries, developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism and others. On Wednesday, March 7, at noon, this special choir will perform its 14th Annual “Capitol Concert” in the beautiful Rotunda of Lansing's Capitol building. The performance is free and open to the public.

This year's performance is sponsored by Rep. Vicki Barnett, 37th District. Rep.Barnett has been working with The Therapy Choirs of Michigan to produce a legislative proclamation denoting the “First Week of March as Choir Therapy Awareness Week in Michigan” henceforth. The proclamation will be presented at the March 7 performance. Guest speakers will include members of the legislature, leaders in the rehabilitation field and others.

Choir Therapy is the assembling of individuals who share a common challenge so that they can experience the joy of singing with others (good singing ability is not required). While providing this pleasure, choir therapy also aids the individuals' recovery through two different mediums: the music itself and the camaraderie of the group.
