Fatal car accident claims Trenton woman
A one-car accident on Route 102 just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 claimed the life of Trenton resident Hope Cummings, 43, who was declared dead at the scene.
Cummings was alone traveling north on Route 102 when her 2009 Chevy Cobalt left the road, according to the responding officer, Kevin Edgecomb of the Mount Desert Police Department. The accident occurred at the mouth of the entrance to the Echo Woods development on Route 102.
“The vehicle left the road on the right side, struck a ledge, became airborne and rolled over twice crossing both lanes of travel and landing on its wheels facing south,” said Edgecomb
Speed does not look like it was a factor, said the officer. “She was going 40 to maybe 55 miles per hour,” said Edgecomb. “Normal speeds.”
