Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-I has directed a leading car manufacturer and the local dealer to repair the luxury vehicle of a Zirakpur resident under warranty and make it fully roadworthy, without any charge.
President of the Commission P D Goel and Members Rajinder Singh Gill and Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota have also directed the manufacturer and the dealer to pay Rs 40,000 to the complainant as compensation for harassment, and litigation cost of Rs 10,000.
In his complaint made to the Forum, Taranjeet Singh Warar stated that in August 2008, he purchased a luxury car from the dealer in Industrial Area, Phase I. The vehicle started giving problems soon after purchase. Despite leaving the vehicle at the dealers workshop repeatedly, the defects could not be fully removed.
Warar complained that the dealer did not show him the report of the Technical Engineer of the manufacturer, who had supposedly inspected the vehicle in November 2009.
Warar said that since the vehicle was within the warranty period, the repairs should have been carried out for free. But the dealer handed him a bill of Rs 2.20 lakh for the repair. He stated that even though he informed the insurance company that he had left the vehicle in the dealers workshop, the company did not appoint a surveyor on the pretext that there was a manufacturing defect.
