PILER expresses concern over poor conditions of health, safety
KARACHI: Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) has expressed concern over the poor conditions of occupational health and safety in the industrial sector and said that the government should ensure efficient labour inspection mechanisms in the provinces.
Employers have a legal compulsion to ensure that hazards in the workplace are eliminated, minimised, or controlled in such a way that work accidents are avoided said a statement release by PILER on Friday evening.
PILER pointed out that in Pakistan the situation of occupational health and safety was fast deteriorating and there was no independent legislation on health and safety except the Hazardous Occupation Rule 1963 under the Factories Act 1934.
Practically, the above mentioned laws are obsolete and do not conform to international practices.
