    Rice worried about shoulder injury

    Triple Olympic gold medal winner Stephanie Rice has admitted her injured right shoulder is giving her so much concern as she continues to nurse the injury towards next month's selection trials, that if this wasn't an Olympic year, she would have taken 12 months out of the water.

    Swimming on the opening morning of the NSW State titles at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Rice made it safely through to the 400m individual medley final with a 4min.49.93s swim, in her first event since having shoulder surgery back in December, but immediately after the race spoke of the enormous frustration the injury is giving her, and of knowing it could ruin her Olympic hopes at any time.

    "If this wasn't an Olympic year I would have pulled out of the year," Rice said. "It has been the most frustrating journey. Everything I am doing right now is hopefully making my character stronger.
