Syracuse, NY - The prosecution is expected to conclude its case against Megabus driver John Tomaszewski when the non-jury trial resumes in Onondaga County Court today.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Detective Valerie Brogan is scheduled to testify about a statement Tomaszewski made to her after the double-decker bus he was driving crashed into the CSX railroad bridge over Onondaga Lake Parkway early the morning of Sept. 11, 2010.
Tomaszewski, 60, of New Jersey, is charged with four counts of criminally negligent homicide and one count of failure to obey a traffic control device in the crash.
Four passengers on the bus – former Camillus resident Deanna Armstrong, 18, of New Jersey; Temple University student Kevin Coffey, 19, of Kansas; Ashwani Mehta, 34, of India, and Benjamin Okorie, 35, of Malaysia – were killed in the crash.
Two of the victims were killed when they struck the bridge directly and the other two were crushed in the wreckage of the bus, according to testimony last week from Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Anna, an accident reconstruction expert.
