Fatal truck accident on Maryland bridge raises safety concerns ...
Last week, a frightening truck accident on the Bay Bridge claimed the life of a 70-year-old Maryland man. Harry Blauvelt was a long-time golf writer for USA Today before retiring to Chester, Maryland. Like many residents on Kent Island, he was dependent on the Bay Bridge and had expressed concerns over the safety of bridge.
Seven years ago, Blauvelt spoke out about the dangerous conditions on the bridge at a Kent Island community meeting. He greatly feared the two-way traffic on the narrow bridge and he had referred to its lanes as "suicide lanes."

Truck driver killed in watery crash
The wreck happened about 8:20 a.m. on property owned by Brammer Engineering Inc., police said.
Driver Otto F. Tello, 30, of Channelview, Texas, was pulled from the submerged cab by divers and pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the crash, authorities said.
Tello, driving for Houston-based New Energy Transport, was the truck's sole occupant.
Police said the 18-wheeler crossed the bridge to access Brammer Engineering's land rig, about a mile east of Bull Run Road, when the drilling pipes it was hauling slid backward, knocking the truck off balance and pulling both off the bridge.
The semi was left submerged, save for a single tire that jutted from the murky water. It remained there late Monday.
Authorities had said they would assess the pipe for damage.
