Optimistic about the citys future, Mayor Holly Sierra told a large crowd at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott on Feb. 29 that this success story of a city has accomplished quite a bit in 20 years, and weve got a lot more to do.
Sierra was one of several speakers at the city of Buelltons annual State of the City Address, a cause for celebration that honored the heroism of the California Highway Patrol, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Santa Maria Towing and six Navy Seabees during a fiery, deadly crash on Highway 101 in January, just a few miles south of Buellton.
Sierra delivered a Proclamation honoring the responders to the crash that killed the driver of a big-rig and injured Kelli Groves, 36, her 10-year-old daughter Sage, and her then 11-week-old daughter Mylo, who found themselves in a mangled BMW dangling over a freeway bridge.
Petty Officers Benjamin Mead and other Seabees were driving home on Jan. 12 from Fort Hunter Liggett
