BADEN — A 31-year-old Kitchener man is dead following a head-on crash on Highway 7/8 near Baden.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of a pickup truck was travelling west when “for some unknown reason,” he crossed over into the eastbound lanes of the highway, hitting a cube van, said OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford.
The cube van rolled onto its roof but the two male occupants escaped without injuries, Woodford said.
An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but it did not land because the driver trapped in the pickup truck had no vital signs, Woodford said.
The dead man’s name will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
The section of the highway between Foundry Street and Nafziger Road was reopened by about 1:30 p.m., after OPP officers had finished investigating.
There is an 80 km/h speed limit in that stretch of the highway and no median separating the westbound and eastbound lanes.
Woodford said police will be looking at such things as driver distraction, medical conditions and mechanical failure as possible causes.
