    RoSPA urges new approach to workplace accident reporting ...

    The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has urged the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to consider introducing a more radical approach to the reporting of workplace accidents.

    The HSE is currently running a consultation on potentially amending the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR). RoSPA’s contribution to this is to propose that a greater emphasis be placed on employers and their responsibility to investigate accidents, injuries, ill health and ‘near misses’ internally and learn from their mistakes.

    US Airways Worker Dies in Accident at Sky Harbor International Airport

    Phoenix, AZ — A work-related accident killed a US Airways employee Friday, February 17, 2012, when he became stuck in the conveyor belt system. The fatal accident occurred at the Sky Harbor International Airport in a luggage conveyor belt area of Terminal 4, reported AZ Family.

    US Airways employee Robert Demarco, 60, was working in the luggage conveyor belt area when he become stuck between the upper and lower conveyor belts of the system.

    Responding officials from the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced Demarco dead at the scene.

    Police say there were no indications of foul play, and is being ruled as a “tragic accident.”

    The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is examining the victim.

    Investigations into the workplace accident and how it occurred are underway.

    Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are also expected to launch an investigation.
