In recent workers' compensation law news, Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), Chair of the Workforce Protection Subcommittee, recently held a hearing on Capitol Hill to examine the current state of the federal workers' compensation program and to discuss whether changes to the program were needed.
While federal employees are legally prohibited from suing the federal government for their work-related injuries, they do have access to a rather generous system of work comp benefits to help cover lost wages, medical expenses and other costs.

My older brother was working with me @ the same restaurant. He called in sick for a minor back injuring, it wasnt something brutal..he just needed some rest days...he gots 2 jobs, so u kno sometimes u need to rest. He calls them and tells them hes ready to work, but they tell them he needed a doctor's note for approval. Its hard getting a doctor's note without being a patient and without insurance. It took a while to get that...as he still communicated

A doctors note doesn't forgive absences. That ended when you got out of school. Surgery and a broken leg have FMLA protection for 12 weeks but they could have fired the guy with the broken leg after 12 weeks when he didn't return.
