Am I eligible for workers compensation?

I quit my job due to a work related injury. I told my boss that I quit BECAUSE I had injured myself working for them.
I filed a workers compensation claim. I was contacted by the insurance company and they said they are NOT required to pay anything EXCEPT my doctors bills because I no longer work their.

The doctor said I CAN'T work for roughly one month.

If I was injured ON THE JOB and can't work (temporarily),

Only if your claim is accepted, and your doctor declares you unable to work, WHILE YOU ARE STILL EMPLOYED.

Fears on ACC work injury cover

Concern is growing that the Government is preparing to shut the Accident Compensation Corporation out of work injury cover to enable private insurers to compete in the market.

ACC's work account was due to be opened to competition in October but that date now seems likely to be pushed out until April 2013 after ACC Minister Judith Collins said she needed more time to consider the Government's options.

A paper outlining options for privatising the work account and expanding the accredited employer scheme was due to go to a Cabinet committee for approval on Wednesday.

Ms Collins said a reviewed paper would now be ready in a few months.

The paper suggested ACC levies would have to increase to ensure private insurers can compete with ACC, which pays no tax and is not required to pay a dividend to the Government.

Ms Collins has called those suggestions "hypothetical" but will not be drawn on other options open to the Government.

Prime Minister John Key said today the Government would not shut ACC out of providing work injury cover.
