Ebony awards to honor “unsung heroes"
His wish will come true Sunday at the 29th annual Ebony Awards banquet.
Lawson will be honored as a pioneer in his career, along with Florida A.Y. Bridgewater-Alford, Alicia A. Frazier Antone, Shaney Diane Taylor Livingston and Joy R. Smith Robinson.
The guest speaker will be Ron Claiborne, news anchor of the ABC News weekend edition of “Good Morning America.”
“I was there about 30 years ago when they honored my grandfather, Vernon L. Trapp Sr., and it means so much to me to receive the same award my grandfather did,” Lawson said.
“I am humbled to be recognized for giving back to the community. It says to me, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant,' ” he said.
Bernadette Woody, founder and coordinator of the Ebony Appreciation Awards Committee, said the group's goal is to honor “true heroes” in the black community.
Woody said the committee recognizes “pioneers” because they are trailblazers and community service honorees because “they give so much back to the community.”
